When I was 23 years old I was living in Denver, Colorado and had just finished Rocky Mountain School of Photography's Summer Intensive school and wanted to dive in to Boudoir Photography. I named my business Femme-Photography. I did a few boudoir shoots those first few years, but was more sought out to do family photoshoots, a couple of weddings, senior pictures, maternity, newborn... and as a young starving artist, I couldn't turn down a gig. So, for the next 15+ years, I mixed it up and did it all. I feel like I've come back to my first love. There was a reason why boudoir was always so appealing... it's not just an experience, it's part of a movement. It's about changing the way I feel about my own body, empowering women to do the same, and taking bold steps to actively fight against this toxic culture we live in that tells us we are unworthy based on our looks, and "less than" if we don't conform to society's standards. Boudoir is a bold rebellion against these toxic cultural norms, and my clients are women who are on this journey of self love and acceptance with me.
This is a journey. It means, you have to start somewhere, and maybe you're at the beginning. Maybe you don't know yet how to love your body where it is today. That's ok. It's not a switch you can flip. It takes lots of small choices and a few big ones to make the change... but I feel like boudoir is a large step in saying, I'm CHOOSING to love my body today, where it's at. In making this bold declaration, you are bringing light into the darkness, you are shaping the culture around you for good, you are stopping toxic beliefs that get passed down from generation to generation. You are actually being "the change you wish to see in the world".
